Yesterday, after the Tour of Hope event in the Grand Parade in Halifax, Rob headed back to the TFF office with Barb and then he deposited monies donated from the event into the bank. I went for a run from the hotel to Point Pleasant Park. Beautiful run in the park, some great heritage homes along the way. Got a little lost as I came out of the park at a different spot then I went in. Have been fighting an Achilles injury, so the extra miles didn’t help, I think my running is toast for awhile. I joined Rob and Mary Anne Bailey, who were with Terry’s Van down at the harbour board walk. Nice sunny evening and lots of foot traffic to see the Van. Rob has been really good in taking the initiative to get the van to places that people can see it outside of scheduled events. Whether it’s been at a Tim’s, on the turn off to the Newfoundland Ferry in Port aux Basque or on the boardwalk of Halifax harbour, Rob’s been the Man! Took the Van back to the hotel, then Rob and I were treated to a nice dinner by Mary Anne. Mary Anne also snuck up to the Keg where Jason and Ken were having dinner and took care of their meal also.
An off day, have not had many of those since we left St. Johns. A late start to the day do to taking care of a few things, had hoped to get out and see a bit more of Halifax before Doug Vater picked me up, but all I had time to do was walk up to the top of the citadel hill. Met Doug at the hotel around 1pm and we headed to Peggy’s Cove. Beautiful area, stopped to see the Swiss air flight memorial dedicated to those that lost their lives 10 years ago not far off the coast of Nova Scotia and Peggy’s Cove. A moving memorial!
Today was transmission installation day for Jason and Ken. Ken brought 2 with him from T.O. We were all keeping our fingers crossed that this would finally take care of the problem. Doug and I returned to Halifax after stopping for some local fish & chips. Nice to spend some time with Doug, as mentioned earlier, he has been a wonderful friend to our family. Met with Rob for a cool refreshment while waiting for news from Jason on the state of the van. I spotted the van through a window from where we were driving past down the street. Before I knew it Rob was off chasing the van. He didn’t catch it and the van was gone. We went searching and found it parked in front of our hotel. The trany was now good in the van and Jason was just going to do a quick oil change. It’s about 7:30pm and he and Ken were heading for a long drive home to Toronto. It wasn’t planned this way, but it’s been nice to have Jason with us the past 10 days. He is very protective of Terry’s van and takes a lot of pride in the fact that he was part of the team that restored it. He kept Rob and me on our toes as he made sure we were taking our "#@&%@!" time working around the Van.
Rob and I drove the Van and pickup truck down to pier 20 to meet Frank at the trailer. Loaded the van on the trailer and Frank left with the whole unit for Dartmouth where it would be stored for the night. Rob and I walked back to the hotel with a stop on the way at Alexander Keith’s Brewery for a bite to eat, of course I had to buy a t-shirt. An early night!
